I'd like to take a moment to honor the memory of one of the greatest female vocalists that our generation may ever know--Ms. Whitney Elizabeth Houston. Cited by The Guinness Book of World Records as 'the most-awarded female act of all time', Whitney will undoubtedly be remembered for her unparalelled talent for years to come.
I chose this particular video clip because I always found it remarkable that Whitney was the ONLY singer in history, due to the overwhelming response to her rendition, to have turned the national anthem
into a 'pop hit'. It was released as a
commercial single, and reached the Top 20
on the US Hot 100 List in 1991. Truth be told, I remember listening, over and over again, to a copy that my mother had bought when I was 10 years old. It of course goes without saying, that this song was one of what seemed like a million of Whitney's performances, that had her listener's jaw-dropped at her awe-inspiring talent.
So, without further adiue, please enjoy the following clip of this incredible performance, that 21 years later, still manages to give us goosebumps, and warrant a click of the 'repeat' button.
Rest in peace, Ms. Houston--your voice is not one we will soon forget, nor one that I think we may ever hear the likes of again in our lifetime.
